Wolf's Pit Fell Race

If you're looking for a testing fell race this weekend, you could do no worse than this one!

Make sure that you leave your vest OFF! The vest wearing gents in this picture seem to be struggling, while Richard is making light work of the terrain.

This map is taken from the Wolf's Pit Fell Race site.

Wolf's Pit Fell Race - Sunday 17th 11am

**2013 arrival & departure from the event instructions**

Please park at High Peak Garden Centre, Hope Road, Bamford, Hope Valley, S33 0AL as instructed. Then make your way on foot through the village of Shatton, up Townfield Lane, to the start field.

Please allow extra time to walk to the start/finish field, distance approximately 900 metres/0.55 miles from High Peak Garden Centre.

Race entry fee: £5 payable upon collection of race number

Minimum age 16 years old, but 16 to u18 year old runners only accepted with signed parental consent form available at registration.

Kit

The race is to be run under FRA rules and full kit will be required. (full body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass & whistle).

Toilets

Toilet facilities will be available, by kind permission, at the High Peak Garden Centre and Townfield Barn adjacent to the start/finish field.

Training on the course and important land access issues

The local land owners have been extremely co-operative, working with us to allow access across open farm land en-route to the mast (the first big climb), and allowing access across Abney and Offerton Moor for the later parts of the course. (This access is granted for the duration of the race only; a TWO hour period 1100hrs - 1300hrs on the day – please do not abuse this privilege).

Dogs

The race is to be held in early Spring (lambing time), so no dogs on the course.

And of course, a video:

Barnsley AC - some amazing archive reports!

Follow this link and read some of the amazing reports from the Barnsley AC archives. The older ones amongst us will have probably run in one or two or MORE of them.

Does anyone have any Penistone Race reports to hand?

Presentation Evening - NEXT WEEK!

Penistone Footpath Runners & AC’s Presentation Evening will be held on the 20th March in the Carvery Room at Cubley Hall.

The Junior Presentation will be start at 7.00 pm followed by a short break to re-stock your drinks.   This will then be followed by the Senior Presentation, comprising of awards for the Club championship, Winter Handicap and Club Record breakers.   The evening will conclude with the Presentation of the Merit Award Trophy.

Please try and attend, even if you have not won anything, and make it a night to remember for those who have won the awards.

Bar meals will be available in the main bar area within Cubley Hall for those who want something to eat.

Landlord John has been very generous in the past sponsoring our races so please try and support the event.

Let them eat CAKE!

Although it might be over a month away, Pete McLeod would like you to know about the Hartcliffe Hill race which takes place in April. It's a bit of a short, sharp; "When does this bl***y hill end?" type of run. Now the main thing is of course: CAKE! You need to sort out a cake recipe which will have the entrants racing up and down them thar hills. Penniless students, who now have to pay tuition fees thanks to Nick Clegg, turn up in the hope of winning a life-saving crumb or two.
Pete needs a few helpers and he's sent me a list of possible vacancies. Just keep these in mind and offer support when the time comes.

The details are in the Fellrunner calendar, the barn at Langsett is booked, I have managed to save enough numbers from the XC League to make sure there are numbers on the day. What I haven't done is:
  • remind club members that it is on
  • get people to do the recording on the day  (4 needed)
  • ask club members to marshall (min 9 needed - but I already have 3 of these)
  • put out a request for cakes
  • check the course
I will ask Martyn to do the results and approach Andy Plummer to get some Woodhead MR first aid cover. Barbara, are you OK to check with the relevant landowners? Steve, are you OK to co-ordinate entries? If either of you feel able to help with any of the other things in the list above, let me know.
Here's hoping that the Good Weather Fairy is going to smile on us this year.

No Langsett Runs for a couple of weeks!

Steve Storey has cancelled the next two weeks Wed am Langsett runs.   He will keep you informed when the next run is to be held.

You could always pop down there yourself and then have a Dambuster Breakfast at the Bank View Cafe! Go on, it'll do you good!

Martyn's Weekly Round Up (7)

Penistone Footpath Runners & AC’s Dave Needham broke his own vet 65 Club Record last Sunday in the Retford Half Marathon when he also finished in the prizes as 1st in that category.    On a bitterly cold day, he knocked 7 seconds off the record he set in last year's race to finish in 115th position in 1-39-48.       Paul Gee was 1st Club runner home in 104th position in 1-37-13 with Mark Riordan just behind in 107th in 1-38-13 and Geoff Dimelow, in hard training for the London Marathon, 142nd in 1-42-42.

Two Members travelled up to West Yorkshire to compete in the hilly Spenborough 20 mile road race.   The race was again run in bitterly cold weather and Nick Morris was 113rd in 2-39-32 and Heather Parkin 181st in 2-57-37.
