Martyn's Weekly Round Up (8)

Penistone Footpath Runners & AC organised the Yorkshire Vets Cross Country Championships at Wentworth Castle last Saturday.   Although the weather was fine, the wet weather preceding the event made the course muddy in places making it a good test over the 10K course for the Championship.    Mike Egner had a great run and won the vet 55 category, finishing in 6th place overall in the vet 50 to 69 race.    Along with Mick Quinn and Steve Storey, Mike also led the Club to the first team medals in that race in the vet 50 to 59 category.    Steve Frith, Dave Needham and Bob Innes ran in the same race and took the third team medals in the vet 60 to 69 category.

In the Ladies 5K race, Nicky Spinks finished as 2nd vet 45, finishing in 11th place overall.     Results were Ladies 5K race : 11, N Spinks 21-55; 44, S Clough 26-03; 58, A Lightowler 27-20.    Men vet 50 to 69 10K Race : 6, M Egner 38-56; 17, M Quinn 41-14; 21, S Storey 41-45; 46, S Frith 45-51; 68, D Needham 51-46; 70, B Innes 51-55.   Men vet 35 to 49 10K Race : 12, D Kilpin 39-43; 28, M Law 42-54; 31, G Dean 43-53; 37, R Clough 44-57.

The popular Hull 20 only attracted two members this year.   Dave Needham ran his second race of the weekend and took the first vet 65 prize, finishing in 173rd place in 2-38-52.   Paul Gee was 137th in 2-33-38.
